THESIS DEFENSE BY FRANÇOIS HUBERLAND
His research led to the realization of a device that is composed of two magnets connected by a wire, and which makes it possible to make cuts in the digestive tract by compressing the tissues instead of incising them, which achieves a more progressive cut, limiting the risk of perforation.
This device makes it possible to treat rare diseases such as diverticulum.
This project is the result of a multidisciplinary collaboration between
- the Beams service (Bio, Electro And Mechanical Systems) of the Ecole polytechnique de Bruxelles (ULB),
- the Gastroenterology Department of Erasmus Hospital,
- the BMDC (Brussels Medical Device Center) and
- the “Champalimaud Foundation” in Lisbon.
It was funded by Innoviris and is currently looking for partners to reach the CE mark.
The device won the “device of the year” award at the annual ESGEdays conference in March 2021.
