Project<\/strong><\/span><\/h2><p>\u00a0<\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>Developed by engineers Orianne Bastin and Max Thulliez and Dr Alia Hadefi,<\/strong> the <strong>Phenix<\/strong> project <strong>intended to develop a new device<\/strong> in order <strong>to apply cold plasma<\/strong> onto the digestive mucosa membranes leading to the ablation of the latter.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">This method could <strong>treat metabolic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, \u00ab\u00a0fatty liver\u00a0\u00bb or diseases such as Barrett\u2019s esophagus.<\/strong><\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff; font-family: Helvetica; background-color: transparent; letter-spacing: 0px;\"><strong>The innovation<\/strong> relies on the physico-chemical nature of this novel medical application and its action potentially inducing a \u00ab\u00a0programmed cell death\u00a0\u00bb.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The research focuses<\/span><\/p><ul><li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">on the development of the device and<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">on the laboratory study of cellular and molecular effects when cold plasma is applied to digestive tissue.<span style=\"font-family: Helvetica; background-color: transparent; letter-spacing: 0px;\"><br \/><\/span><\/span><\/li><\/ul><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">In this context, the researchers of the PHENIX project developed a model that reproduces human tissues and allows the intensity and extent of treatment to be studied without the need for animal testing.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\"><strong>On one side, an electrical model<\/strong> developed allows to optimize the intensity of plasma processing by studying several parameters such as its stream or electrical parameters.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">This development has also led to the publication of a literature review article to describe their use, challenges associated with them and good practices.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">This will provide a solid foundation for the development of such models and provide an overview of relevant literature to interested researchers.<\/span><br \/><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">The article, \u00ab\u00a0Gel models to assess distribution and diffusion of reactive species from cold atmospheric plasma: an overview for plasma medicine applications\u00a0\u00bb,\u00a0<\/span><span style=\"background-color: transparent; letter-spacing: 0px;\"><span style=\"color: #ffffff;\">was published by Max Thulliez, Orianne Bastin, Antoine Nonclerc, Alain Delchambre and Fran\u00e7ois Reniers in the journal \u00ab\u00a0Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics\u00a0\u00bb and is accessible by following this<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"color: #ff99cc;
